About Mark
For more than four decades, Mark Clookie served his fellow Americans at the highest level of law enforcement and child protection. His career apex was serving as the Director of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), the vaunted federal law enforcement agency made famous by the top-rated CBS TV series.
He is a nationally recognized subject matter expert in criminal investigations, government management, counter terrorism, counterintelligence, and executive protection.
Following graduation from the University of Maryland, Mr. Clookie attended the Baltimore City Police Academy and served for two years as a police officer in Annapolis, MD.
He then became a civilian Special Agent for NCIS, rising to various leadership positions around the world, including multiple assignments in the Middle East and Far East.
During his 31-year NCIS career, Mr. Clookie rose through the ranks of the agency, leading investigations and operations involving all categories of felony crimes as well as missions to prevent and investigate terrorism, espionage, piracy, and the smuggling of narcotics and weapons. Notably, he was in the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, when a terrorist-hijacked airplane struck the building.
From 2010-2013, he served as NCIS Director, leading an agency of more than 2,500 personnel working from 175 offices throughout the U.S. and 60 foreign countries.
After leaving federal service, Mr. Clookie served four years as Vice President for Investigations and Law Enforcement Development for an international non-government organization focused on combating human trafficking, slavery, and the sexual exploitation of children.
Mark is the co-founder and Board Member of Prevention-Now.org, a not-for-profit company that uses advanced technologies, such as AI, to predict and prevent human trafficking. He also serves on the board of several NGOs committed to public safety.
Mark and his wife Mona live in Western Maryland. They are active in their church and enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren. Mark continues to serve others, volunteering as the Assistant Chief of his local fire department.
